KIV-21
|
The KIV-21 is an in-line network encryptor (INE) approved by the National Security Agency (NSA) to process network traffic classified up to TS/SCI. The KIV-21 provides Type 1 encryption for networked users, allowing them to securely pass Internet Protocol (IP) data packets across private intranets, wide area enterprises, or the public Internet. |
Most of today's secure networks rely on point-to-point extensions to build hub-and-spoke style networks, or use static configuration tables to build multi-point networks. The KIV-21 is the first Type 1 INE to address the costs associated with managing, installing, and maintaining large-scale secure meshed networks in order to unleash the full benefit of secure virtual private networks (VPNs). Its full-mesh connectivity improves network performance and reliability and reduces network management.
Based on the NSA-approved Embeddable INFOSEC Product (EIP), the KIV-21 is a plug-and-play device that functions similar to a router on the secure network. It is simple to administer because it uses network protocols to perform most of the configuration and path discovery dynamically. The KIV-21 provides encrypted data packets with the information necessary for them to navigate through standard wide area commercial infrastructure to their secure network destination for decryption. The KIV-21 interfaces to the secure network via Ethernet and the wide area network through a high-speed serial (RS-449/LAP-B) interface.
The KIV-21 is easy to configure. Once loaded with its Red-side IP address via a console port, the KIV-21 is managed via a commercial Web browser from any PC on the Red LAN. No special hardware or software is required to set-up, configure or manage the KIV-21.
ViaSat has demonstrated the KIV-21 successfully in diverse applications. In May 1999, KIV-21s were used to secure IP traffic transmitted over a ViaSat StarWire VSAT network in a live demonstration at the AFCEA/SPAWAR Systems Center C4ISR Symposium in San Diego. This demonstration introduced secure "bandwidth-on-demand" (SBOD) satellite-networking services, combining Type 1 network security with a commercial satellite network. The KIV-21 was used to create multiple secure VPNs over a coalition wide area network for the Joint Warfare Interoperability Demonstration (JWID '99). More recently, ViaSat and TeleCommunication Systems, Inc. (TCS) demonstrated mobile voice/data operations over a KIV-21 -secured network at AFCEA's TechNet 2000. In all cases, the KIV-21 quickly established secure, reliable network operations, demonstrating its superior performance and ease of installation/management.
Besides superior performance, we have designed the KIV-21 for low cost of ownership as well. ViaSat pricing for the KIV-21 includes 18 months of software maintenance (including free upgrades), a three-year hardware warranty, 18 months of free Help Desk telephone support and a free training course at ViaSat's facility in Carlsbad.
